 What is Voluntary Conservation Hunting? 

Voluntary conservation hunting helps reduce feral and game animal numbers in declared State forests in NSW - thereby benefitting the environment, agriculture, and the economy of NSW.

  • Extreme temperatures. There is a wildfire on Canobolas State forest and it has been closed for hunting until further notice. Blackpowder: the use of blackpowder firearms is removed from all forests until further notice.
    Special Conditions: There is to be No solid fuel fires or campfires until further notice.  All hunters are to check their radios each day to ensure that it is not a total fire ban day with licensed hunting not allowed.

  • Pig Dog Hunting at Night in NSW State Forests. Following several trials and requests from pig dog hunters, Game Council has successfully applied to Forests NSW to allow night time pig dog hunting in selected State Forests. For more information, go to.

  • GPS downloads. After being temporarily suspended, the facility for Game Council-licensed hunters to download State forest hunting maps onto GPS units has now been re-established.
  • Please Note: Due to fire danger, Blackpowder firearms cannot be used until further notice in Bondi, Coolangubra, Bombala, Craigie, Glen Allan, Nalbaugh, Tallaganda State forests and all forests in the North East Forests region and far North Coast of NSW.
