Welcome Hard work comes to fruition It is my privilege to welcome you to the Game Council of NSW website. For many years, this organisation has been in planning phase. To see it unfold and develop is a great achievement thanks to the hard work and dedication of many people. The commencement of hunting on declared public land in March 2006 was a significant milestone for the Game Council with the declaration of 31 State forests and one Crown Land area. This has created a major opportunity for licensed, accredited hunters to target feral animals such as pigs, goats, foxes and rabbits, as well as be part of community-based wild deer management programs. Hundreds more State forests have since been declared for conservation hunting, bringing the total to 460 State forests and two Crown Land areas. The subsequent release of Game Council's "Conservation Scorecard'' in March 2008 is testimony to the hard work already being done by conservation hunters who have removed almost 20,000 feral animals from State forests by early 2009. While the scheme is still in its infancy, the Conservation Scorecard aims to highlight the potential value of conservation hunting. The NSW Game Hunting Licensing System - officially launched in September 2004 - is based on international best practice. I urge hunters and hunting clubs alike to support the Game Council and its objectives and help lift the standard and profile of conservation hunting in NSW. As a Statutory Authority, all funds raised by the Game Council will go back into future Game Council activities such as research and conservation projects. Please do not hesitate to contact Game Council NSW if you wish to provide feedback or require further information. After all, the Game Council will only ultimately be what you make it. Good luck and safe hunting. Robert Borsak |
