Hunter Education Handbook

The NSW Hunter Education Handbook emphasises Game Council NSW commitment to promoting responsible hunting.

The Handbook draws on a wide range of expertise in the fields of animal welfare, hunting legislation, safety, conservation and ethics… all key areas of knowledge for the responsible hunter.

Only hunters with adequate training and who are members of Game Council Approved Hunting Organisations (AHOs) may apply for the Restricted NSW Game Hunting Licence (R-Licence) to hunt on declared public land.  The Handbook has been created to lift standards and knowledge test hunters as a pre-requisite to licensing.

The Handbook was produced under the guidance of Game Council’s Ethics & Education Committee, chaired by Dr Tony English, the Director of the Wildlife Health and Conservation Centre, Faculty of Veterinary Science, University of Sydney.

The Handbook plays a key role in ensuring holders of the R-Licence have a demonstrated knowledge of safety, ethical behaviour, animal welfare and legislation.

Attached below are individual chapters for the Hunter Education Handbook. However, potential licensed hunters are urged to buy a hard-copy of the handbook or disk for future reference and as an ongoing educational tool.
